About the contest

Nevada County Television (NCTV), Grass Valley California, conducted their First Annual “Here In Nevada County” Screenplay Contest and Oberon's Gold was selected as one of the ten winners.

Between June and September of 2014, the ten screenplay writers must produce a 10-minute film based on their screenplay that is going to premiere at the Del Oro theater in Grass Valley, California on October 6th, 2014, which is going to be open to the public — if there are going to be any seats available.

The films are not just, as they would say in the industry, ultra-low budget, but most of them have no budget at all, per the philosophy of the competition.

About Oberon's Gold

Oberon's Gold is set in 1861 in Nevada City, California. The central character Simon Oberon, a mysterious man who sings and reads poetry for dining guests at the lavish National Exchange Hotel. Simon unknowingly interrupts a heist between two inept highwaymen Kinney & Winker who follow Oberon into town and watch him collect gold coins for his entertaining. Kinney & Winker devise a plan to rob Oberon as he walks home that evening, but Oberon is not who he seems to be. Be Wary From Whom You Steal.

Written by the late Bruce Bradley. Directed by Gerald Martin Davenport, the film was recorded in Grass Valley and at the historic National Exchange Hotel in Nevada City, California.
